How To Road Trip California, Be Cheap, And Still Have A Good Time

05:00
After finishing my California Road Trip video this summer, I realized I still had a lot of extra footage that I hadn’t used. So I decided to put it to good use in a new video. This video is the result: How to Road Trip California. It’s more of a narrative and slower in style than its predecessor, but I’m hoping you still like it. Here’s a link to the first video if you haven’t seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9m-F6pnph0 MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj Many people ask, “How much will it cost to road trip California?" “What are the best places in California to visit?” and “Where is the best food?". The answers to those questions depend on a lot of different factors. California has so much to offer. To truly experience the whole state could take over a month. And you still wouldn’t see everything. Time, money, and personal preference should all be considered. My main question wasn’t as much “How to Road Trip California” as it was “How can I explore California in one week, with two friends, a camera, and a modest budget?” I think I answered it. Yosemite Backpacking Trip: How to Backpack Yosemite National Park

03:43
Yosemite Backpacking Trip: How to Hike, Camp, and Backpack in Yosemite National Park Yosemite camping, hikes, backpacking – I didn’t know how to do any of it. I’ve been to Yosemite before, but it was mostly experienced by driving around and short hikes. It was pretty much a 12 hour blur of taking photos and videos, and then leaving. -- MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj -- So when my friend invited me on a backpacking trip to Yosemite, I thought it would be a great way to experience the park in a much slower and relaxed way. The only problem was, I had never backpacked before. In fact, I hadn’t even properly camped. It was going to be a new experience. I documented it all on my phone. It was recommended that I not bring my DSLR and I’m glad I didn’t. Backpacking Yosemite was tough. I learned a lot of new things quickly and put together this very brief, and fast paced how-to video. I call it my how to backpack Yosemite video. I hope it gives you some good information about Yosemite camping and hiking. Here’s a little more information if you’re interested: Yosemite Camping Camping Yosemite is very common. There are plenty of campgrounds. Some are first come, first serve. Some are reserved for backpackers only. And others you can reserve online. Yosemite campgrounds vary is size, type, and location too. So figure out what your game plan is for sight seeing and plan according to that. If you’re going for the full wilderness experience, then camping Yosemite is going to be a treat. It has the best scenery, you don’t have to see other people, and you get to truly appreciate being in it all. But if camping isn’t your thing, there are other types of lodging in Yosemite. Some of the hotels are really nice and just fun to be in. Yosemite hotels do fill up fast though, especially in the summer. So plan accordingly. Yosemite Hikes I always knew Yosemite was big. But I didn’t realize how many official trails there were that you can just go hike on for days. Literally. Yosemite trails are some of the best and they’re also well taken care of. I was surprised how in some areas that felt so remote, the trails were in really good shape and very clear. There were also times where it was a little confusing, but those were certainly less. Yosemite hikes, whether just going for the day, or part of your backpacking trip, will lead to some of the best views you’ll see. And the best part is usually the further you go, the less people you’ll have to share the view with. Again, Yosemite trails are the best. When you plan your trip, sure, go see the big sights, but try to save time to go for a hike too. You won’t regret it. Yosemite Backpacking Backpacking Yosemite was something I won’t forget. I wouldn’t go as far as to say it changed me, but I definitely appreciated it. It was nice to get out in nature for a few days and only worry about that. Nothing else. Yosemite backpacking isn’t easy though. I highly suggest doing a lot of research beforehand or going with someone who’s really experienced. It will just help make everything easier if you’ve never done it before. If you are a seasoned backpacker though, then your biggest difficulty will probably just be deciding which Yosemite trail to take. Like I say in the video, you carry everything you have on your back all day long, so you need to pack smart. It’s a battle between packing light and having everything you need. When you go with multiple people, you can share some of your items, so that will help keep your bag lighter. I’d suggest looking at Yosemite’s website. They have all the backpacking rules and procedures so you can learn all that before you go. Again, it’s really thorough and the park does a good job of explaining things. There’s so much to learn about backpacking Yosemite. I made this video as a fun starting point for people and as a good reminder for myself. I certainly don’t know everything. But I am surprised how much I learned in just a few days. So enjoy the experience. Whether you are a beginner or a pro, you are going to love it. 96 Hours in Portland, Oregon

96 Hours in Portland, Oregon - What to See When Visiting If you only have 96 hours to visit Portland, Oregon, you have plenty of time to see a lot - and time to get outside the main city, too. My friends and I visited Portland and found lots of things to do and see. Here's our trip to Portland, Astoria, Cannon Beach, and more. Things to Do in Portland Oregon: Oregon has some great coffee and donuts. If you're a fan of one, or both, I'd suggest starting your day with a new place each morning. Some of places we visited: Stumptown Coffee- one of my favorites. Upper Left Roasters Blue Star - unique looking donuts, good coffee too. Voodoo Doughnut- This is in a category of it's own. This place is super trendy and there's always a line out the door. If crazy donuts are your thing, this is the place to go. If standing in line is your thing, this is the place to go. Also, cash only, but they do have an ATM inside. Food in Portland Oregon: I'd definitely suggest checking out the street food. Food carts/trucks line the streets and you can take your pick from one of the many. Many of them also have been on TV/food competitions. Also, since Portland is just the hipster/trendy capital of everything they have some great restaurants to try. Here are the ones we tried Weird things to see in Portland: The Boeing 727 aircraft sitting in the forest. A man decided to live in the woods, but his home is not a house. It's an aircraft. He towed in a 727 to call home. It's been there for years and is quite a sight. He's even willing to give tours sometimes. Just be respectful and get permission to go on his property before setting out for this one. Cool things to do in Portland: Find the waterfalls - Portland has a lot of waterfalls around. Just a short drive east and you'll find Multnomah. One of the most popular ones. But there are plenty of other fun ones to find on your own too. When we visited, Multnomah was closed off to the public, but we found some alternates that were still great. Road trips outside of Portland: Astoria - A port city northwest of Portland. It's a quiet town, but being right on the water makes it extremely relaxing. Also, this is the town of the famous Goonies house. But I wouldn't get your hopes up if you're expecting to see it up close. Apparently, due to a lot of "fans" trespassing, littering, and being verbally abusive to the home owner, tours and even getting close to the house are not allowed. You can still get a decent photo from the neighborhood though. But the neighbors will probably hate you. Cannon Beach - A beautiful beach with the awesome Haystack Rock. This is a great place to chill year-round and an awesome place to watch the sunset. I hope you liked my video of our trip to Portland, Oregon. I'd love to go back in the summer and visit again. There is so much nature around the city and plenty of places to eat and drink in the city. Nature or city person, it's a great place to check out. -- MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj Goonies House Article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3108075/It-s-difficult-place-live-Owner-Goonies-house-reveals-s-harassed-1-000-fans-day-sleepy-town-braces-influx-visitors-movie-s-30th-anniversary.html Music by Epidemic Sound --------------- CONNECT with me: - Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/RoadTripRandy22 - Twitter: http://twitter.com/RandyAlanMedia - Instagram: http://instagram.com/RoadTripRandy22 - Subscribe to this channel: http://bit.ly/1yGCzvI Road Trip Randy is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.

96 Hours In Vancouver

03:08
96 Hours in Vancouver - My Long Weekend in Vancouver! I spent (American) Thanksgiving weekend in Vancouver, Canada. If you're looking for things to do in Vancouver, this video showcases my experience. My friend Judy and I were invited to a wedding in Vancouver. Determined to make the most out of it, we also planned on making it into a vacation. Vancouver is an incredible city and we ending up having quite the adventure. This was my first time to visit Vancouver. Coming from Southern California, I was excited to get seasons. Although the weather in Vancouver is apparently pretty lousy most of the time, I really enjoyed the cool fall season. It was cold, but all the trees were red and orange, which you don’t see too often living in LA. MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj Vancouver Vacation As I said, we wanted to make the most out of our Vancouver vacation, so we planned out all the activities we wanted to do. But some of that was just relaxing in coffee shops and bars. Vancouver is a big city, and it has a lot of cool places to just stop, sit, and enjoy the environment. Plus it’s vacation. Part of vacation always has to be relaxing. Vancouver Sightseeing and Activities We had 3 days for sightseeing and activities. In addition to seeing all the cool things in the city, we also wanted to explore a bit of the area outside of the city. Having both made the vacation better: city + nature. When we got there we literally just looked up things to do in Vancouver online and found all the big and also smaller attractions. These were some of my favorite Vancouver sights and activities: Capilano Suspension Bridge: It’s a nice nature park with lit up tree houses and walkways, and a giant suspension bridge over the Capilano River. Granville Island: Take a boat taxi to an island full of shops and restaurants while looking at all the skyscrapers across the water. Any of the parks! Vacouver has well taken care of parks perfect for running, walking, and relaxing next to the water. Coal Harbour – Great view of the harbor and it also has the Vancouver Olympic torch/cauldron there. Deep Cove – This is a nice little town not too far from the city. It’s quiet and has an incredible view of the harbor. There’s also a ski resort nearby if you have time to drive up the mountain. Check out the bridges, statues, and the steam clock in Vancouver too! There are plenty of things to do in Vancouver and the surrounding area so make sure you plan out your sightseeing spots and activities. If you’re planning to visit Vancouver I highly recommend it. I went in the fall but I imagine the summer would be nice too. The whole city is on the water and it has beaches too. I’d love to make a Vancouver vacation in the summer! Vancouver Travel Getting around Vancouver is very easy. In fact, we walked to most places. They also have buses, a few rail lines, and boat taxis! Even sea planes (if spending money is your thing). Also, like most airports, The Vancouver airport is outside of the city and then you have to travel in to get to all the attractions. Anyway, I hope this information helps. That was our weekend in Vancouver adventure. I hope you enjoyed the video. --------------- CONNECT with me: - Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/RoadTripRandy22 - Twitter: http://twitter.com/RandyAlanMedia - Instagram: http://instagram.com/RoadTripRandy22 - Subscribe to this channel: http://bit.ly/1yGCzvI - Plan your road trip: http://roadtriprandy.com/2015/06/02/the-ultimate-road-trip-planner-internet-resource-guide/ Road Trip Randy is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.

LA Neighborhoods: Episode 1 - Hollywood

05:40
LA Neighborhoods: Hollywood - In the first video of this series I wanted to show you the things to see in Hollywood. When people visit LA, almost everyone comes to Hollywood Blvd. It’s a must-see location full of endless entertainment and tourism chaos. But it’s also my home. I live in Hollywood. I wanted my first video to be about where I live. Therefore, this video is going to be a little bit different than the rest. I know Hollywood pretty well. So I show you around in a (I think) pretty comprehensive way. My future videos probably won’t be so structured simply because I don’t the other neighborhoods as well. Let me know what you thought. Death Valley National Park Road Trip - How You DON'T Want It To End

11:04
Death Valley National Park Road Trip If you're not a big fan of the heat, but want to know what it's like inside Death Valley, this Death Valley tour video might help. This is the road trip my friend and I took just before summer. -- MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj Bobby's amazing camera - http://amzn.to/2ufCmal -- Death Valley is one of the hottest places in the world. It’s also a short 4 hour drive away from Los Angeles. With summer approaching, I wanted to take a road trip out to Death Valley before it got too hot. My friend Bobby went with me. Neither of us had been, yet. We were only there two days yet I’d say we did learn how to road trip Death Valley successfully by failing at a few things first. Here are some basic tips to get you started: Bring a hat, sunscreen, and lots of water. And make sure you are 100% confident in whatever car you are taking out there. The conditions are rough. There’s virtually no cell phone service and no relief from the sun if you get stranded. Also, Death Valley camping is a thing, but I suggesting you know what you're doing. Because we wanted to make things simple, we just stayed in a motel in Beatty, right outside the park. As I said, we planned on making this road trip to Death Valley a simple one, but it turned out to be the opposite of that because of car trouble. I had to get my car towed. I’ll let the video explain that. Here are some more tips if you’re traveling to Death Valley: What to see when visiting Death Valley: -Father Crowley Vista -Rhyolite Ghost Town -Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes -Badwater Basin -Devil’s Golf Course -Artist’s Drive -Artist’s Palette -Zabriskie Point (I don't know for certain, but this seemed to be a popular Las Vegas to Death Valley tour route destination. It was super crowded with lots of tour buses and people pouring out.) -Dante’s View My favorites: Badwater Basin, Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, Artist’s Drive/Palette Devil’s Golf Course was pretty cool too. But mainly just because it’s fun to walk on. It’s razor sharp though. Also, If you road trip Death Valley, consider the car you bring because there are certain roads that are only good for high clearance vehicles. Most of top sights are all accessible via paved roads, but there are a few (like the Race Track) that aren’t. Where to stay in Death Valley: We stayed overnight in a town called Beatty. It’s right outside the east edge of Death Valley and much cheaper. There are also some town-like areas (used town very loosely) inside the park with hotels, cottages, and camp grounds. Consider staying in Furnace Creek, Stovepipe Wells, or Panamint Springs. If you're looking for hotels near Death Valley, you don't have many options. I'd say Lone Pine to the west and Beatty to the east are your best options. Death Valley camping sites can be found all over the park. But again, make sure you know what you're doing and go in a cooler month. We went in May to beat the heat, but it didn’t work. Death Valley weather is crazy. It was 110 and 111 the days we were there. The week before the weather was in the 90’s. The NP website actually says May is usually when it starts getting too hot for visitors. I hope you enjoy watching our Death Valley tour via video. It was definitely quite the experience. LA Neighborhoods: Episode 2 - Downtown

09:35
LA Neighborhoods: Downtown - The second video of this series takes place downtown. And it's a neighborhood I rarely go to. Even though there's a lot to see and do downtown, I've always avoided it. I guess I'm more of an open spaces kind of guy. But in this video I try to explore it and find some okay places and good restaurants. When you see the city of Los Angeles in pictures, you almost always see downtown. It's the pile of skyscrapers surrounded by palm trees, mountains in the distance, and smog. Just like Hollywood, it has a lot of entertainment. But what I didn't realize is just how diverse it actually is. There are all these different pockets and neighborhoods within downtown that make it fun to explore but impossible to film everything. This video could have a part 2, and part 3, and probably part 10. But for now, we just have this one. I hope you enjoy. -Randy MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj --------------- CONNECT with me: - Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/RoadTripRandy22 - Twitter: http://twitter.com/RoadTripRandy22 - Instagram: http://instagram.com/RoadTripRandy22 - Subscribe to this channel: http://bit.ly/1yGCzvI MUSIC from YouTube Audio Library: Behind Closed Doors – Otis McDonald Crimson Fly - Huma-Huma Hang Ups (Want You) - Otis McDonald Road Trip Randy is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.

Road Trip To Sequoia National Park

02:02
Road Trip To Sequoia National Park Last week I traveled to Sequoia National Park. The road trip took place over the New Year and we drove through the Sequoias in Central California. MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj Bobby's amazing camera - http://amzn.to/2ufCmal Sequoia National Park has been on my list for awhile now and I was happy to be able to finally check it off. And since it was winter, there was snow! Upon researching how to visit Sequoia, the first that kept popping up was snow chains. Because of the mountains and bad road conditions, it’d be near impossible to get through the forest without them. Although we learned snow chains are a pain to get on if you’ve never used them before. Things to do in Sequoia National Park: Another thing we learned from research the national park is that there are at least two must-see trees. The #1 largest tree in the world (General Sherman) and the #2 largest tree in the world (General Grant). They win the “largest” record because of their mass - not height or width. Even the ones that don’t break records are amazing. The Sequoia trees are massive. If you’re looking for how to road trip Sequoia National Park, another good tip is that you’ll be able to check out Kings Canyon National Park as well. The parks are right next to each other and the General Grant tree is technically in Kings Canyon. For where to stay at night, we stayed in the John Muir Lodge. They also have cabins nearby but because it was winter, and the cabins didn’t have bathrooms, we chose comfort. The lodge was great! The served meals at all times of the day (for a price) and were very helpful with answering all of our questions. All in all, our road trip to Sequoia was a success. The park is massive and there’s a lot of room to just get out and explore. There were some crowds near the popular spots, but overall they weren’t bad. Tip: A lot of the roads also close during the winter. So when you’re planning what you want to see, make sure to check if it’s open during the winter. For example the famous drive-your-car-through-a-tree Tunnel Log was closed :( If you’re planning a trip, here are some places to see in Sequoia NP: General Sherman Tree Congress trail Giant Forest Crescent Meadow Tunnel Log from the 1930s Moro Rock Grant Grove General Grant Tree Generals Highway. Connects the two parks and is very scenic Kings Canyon Panoramic Point? Hume Lake ^Those are a lot of the top rated places we tried to see, but some of them were closed for winter. Hope you enjoy the video. Michigan Has Real Beaches

02:45
I go home to Michigan every year to celebrate the 4th of July with family and friends on Lake Huron. When I told one of my California friends that I stay on the beach, they looked at me seriously and said “You know that’s not a real beach, right?” They clearly don't understand. Michigan has real beaches. I hope this video convinces you. Northern Michigan summers are the best. My family has a place in Oscoda Michigan. Michigan has a tourism slogan called "Pure Michigan." It's used everywhere in their print and tv ads and I think it accurately describes the best parts of Michigan. The beaches, vacations up north, and the beauty of it all definitely yell Pure Michigan. There are plenty of Michigan attractions. Looking for fun things to do in Michigan? Start by checking out some of the beaches. Come visit! Point Dume Day Trip: One of Malibu’s Top Scenic Spots

02:20
If you’re short on time, but want to see Malibu, take a drive to Point Dume. Incredible scenery, short, easy hiking paths, and you can stand on the same spot where Tony Stark’s home once stood. Point Dume blog post: http://roadtriprandy.com/2015/03/22/day-trip-to-point-dume-malibu-iron-mans-home/ MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj Point Dume is a nice little spot tucked away behind a very wealthy neighborhood. I wouldn’t say it’s a secret spot considering it’s so famous, but it’s not easy to find unless you’re looking for it. If you’re heading to Zuma for a beach day, you’ll see it directly south of you. Parking is tough. This “state park” only has about 10 spots. I suggest going on a weekday and not in the summer, if possible. You may recognize the area from Iron Man or Planet of the Apes. Both were filmed at Point Dume along with a number of other TV shows. Point Dume, Malibu really has it all: bluffs, beach, history, film culture, wealth, and scenery. It’s definitely a must-see when heading to Malibu! --------------- CONNECT with me: - Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/RoadTripRandy22 - Twitter: http://twitter.com/RoadTripRandy22 - Instagram: http://instagram.com/RoadTripRandy22 - Subscribe to this channel: http://bit.ly/1yGCzvI Road Trip Randy is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.

California Road Trip Travel Montage: Exploring the Golden State

03:05
My California Road Trip What can you see in one week on a California road trip? Quite a lot, actually! Taking advantage of a week off work, I grabbed some friends and headed up north to road trip the mountains, forests, and seaside cliffs of Northern California. http://www.roadtriprandy.com This is a fast-paced recap of my experience. The California Road Trip Travel Montage! MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj Ever since I moved to LA, I wanted to take a California road trip up north. I’m more of a nature guy and Northern California has some of the best scenery around. I had no idea how to road trip California, but I just sat down one afternoon and planned some of the places I wanted to explore. I researched some California road trip ideas online and then narrowed them down. Our trip took us to six main vacation destinations: Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Shasta, Avenue of the Giants, San Francisco, and Big Sur. Although it was short, I felt like I got a good taste of each location and I can’t wait to go back! Favorite: Watching the sunset on Glacier Point in Yosemite. Least Favorite: Not being able to find a hotel for 3.5 hours in San Francisco. Exploring California for the first time was an awesome experience. It made me want to take a proper vacation in one of these destinations - to slow down a little bit and take it all in. Hopefully I’ll be able to take more road trips in the near future. I’d love to explore Yosemite in more detail, camp under the stars, and maybe even sleep in my car by choice. California has some of the best vacation spots so I'd love to do another California road trip soon. If you're looking for How to road trip California, I made another video that gives some tips I learned along the way. And if you have any California road trip ideas or vacation ideas, please share them in the comments! i'm always looking for cool places to go. Downtown Palm Springs is full of nice shops, bars, and plenty of parking! They even have a miniature Walk of Stars. Check out the tram that takes you to the top of Mt. San Jacinto. Great views and hiking all around. Spend a couple hours in the Coachella Valley Preserve. It's an awesome desert oasis with a view of the San Andreas Fault. What You'll See in Sequoia National Park

What You'll See on a Sequoia National Park Road Trip MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj Bobby's amazing camera - http://amzn.to/2ufCmal I'm a firm believer that the story you create is much more important than the camera or gear you make it with. With that said, my friend bought the Canon 1DX and it's amazing!!!! I made a video a few weeks back about our road trip, but there was so much good, unused footage I knew I wanted to make a second video. This is that video. I mixed in some shots with my own camera (Canon 60d) and my iphone, but 75% of this is probably the 1DX. Basically I wanted to slow it down and let the visuals of the park speak for themselves. Sequoia National Park is beautiful in the winter. The road trip took place over the New Year and we drove through the Sequoias in Central California. Sequoia National Park has been on my list for awhile now and I was happy to be able to finally check it off. Things to do in Sequoia National Park: One thing we learned from researching the national park is that there are at least two must-see trees. For where to stay at night in Sequoia, we stayed in the John Muir Lodge. They also have cabins nearby but because it was winter, and the cabins didn’t have bathrooms, we chose comfort. The lodge was great! The served meals at all times of the day ($) and were very helpful with answering all of our questions. Vasquez Rocks Day Trip: Where Every Movie Was Filmed

If you want to see where Star Trek (new and old), Power Rangers, The Flintstones, Austin Powers and 23847203698236 other films and TV shows were filmed, you should go to Vasquez Rocks! You can hike, climb, and take pictures where all your favorite characters lived, died, and battled. http://www.roadtriprandy.com MY MAIN GEAR: Camera Body - http://amzn.to/2sNIhiE GoPro HERO 4 Black - http://amzn.to/2sNLw9R Rode Mic - http://amzn.to/2sNgQ8J Canon Lens- http://amzn.to/2sNPcIq Tokina Lens- http://amzn.to/2va7eWn GlideCam Stabilizer - http://amzn.to/2sNLwXj Camera Bag - http://amzn.to/2va3cgj Vasquez Rocks is not even an hour north of LA, in Agua Dulce, CA. Since it is such a famous movie location, you’ll find other movie fans hiking, taking pictures, and generally just getting in your way. It’s so popular, productions still film there all the time and you might not be allowed in at all. Charles and I got lucky and there weren’t too many people when we went. We were able to climb to the top, take pictures, and trip and fall many times. It’s not that hard of a climb, in my opinion, but when you are carrying camera equipment and not watching where you are going, it’s easy to walk off a cliff. The Salton Sea: That Weird Place in The Desert Everyone Talks About

03:23
I took my second road trip out to the Salton Sea to revisit all the deserted buildings, dead fish, and hippies that made the place so fascinating the first time. I also wanted to try a new video style. I haven't really done a slower type of video like this. It's something I've been wanting to try for awhile. Abandoned homes, thousands of dead fish, the awful smell - it's all strangely appealing. Taking a road trip out there always makes for a fun adventure. There's not much to do in the Salton Sea, but enough to fill a day. I suggest checking out the water at Bombay beach. By visiting Bombay Beach, you also get to drive through a small town to get there. It's half abandoned, half not. There's even a small hotel and convenient store. I'd also suggest driving down to Slab City. Salvation Mountain and East Jesus are the main attractions. Salvation Mountain is a man-made art mountain with Bible verses and colors painted on it. East Jesus is considered a junk yard art exhibit. Some of the art is really impressive! The people living there live off the grid and will give you a tour of the whole place if you ask. The Salton Sea is located in Imperial County. Many documentaries and videos have been made about the area. If you're ever doing a california road trip, definitely consider putting it on your list. Salton Sea Road Trip: Big Deserted Lake! Salton Sea, California USA

03:14
Thoughts on my Salton Sea road trip: Salton Sea is one of the strangest places I've been to. Huge, smelly, and now completely desolate, Salton Sea used to be one of the top weekend vacation spots for Californians. Blog: http://www.roadtriprandy.com Although empty and barren, you can still see pieces of what used to be a very popular tourist destination. Abandoned stores, towns, and cars can be found scattered all around the lake. Road trip planner: If you plan on taking a Salton Sea road trip, here are some interesting places nearby... Bombay Beach- Free to enter, nice view, interesting town in front. Salvation Mountain- Incredible man-made "mountain" painted in bible verses and words praising God. I'm a long-time fan, first-time buyer. I've used GoPros in the past, but this is my first time owning one and taking it snowboarding. Clearly I'm no Shaun White, but I still had a blast testing out the camera and trying to get cool shots. What I'm most impressed with is how crisp the video is and how vivid the colors are on the 4. The wide lens also gives the snowboarding experience a more immersive feel for the viewer. Can't wait to take the GoPro Hero 4 Black on more road trips! And maybe a real mountain...with real snowboarders. Things I learned: - Aim your helmet/head mount down more. Some of my head-mount footage was unusable because I had it pointed too high. View your framing on the app if you can. - Batteries die fast on the mountain. Bring plenty of extras. - Slight head and arm movements can really jerk a shot. Keep 'em steady! - Don't change batteries on the chairlift. Tokina 11-16 F2.8 Lens Test, First Attempt

01:42
This is my first attempt with the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens. The shots are a little sloppy, but overall I'm pretty happy with the result. The wide angle is incredible and the image is very sharp. I also used a stabilizer to get the smooth shots, but it requires a lot of practice to perfect, which is something I need more of. The lens is great for landscape photography and video. Keeping subjects in focus is relatively easy and everything stays sharp as long as you don't get too close. Because it's a wide angle lens, the edges of the frame can look distorted, so be careful when filming people. Can't wait to use this lens more and take it on some road trips!! Birthday In Big Bear

06:33
Birthday in Big Bear! For my birthday this year, my friends and I spent the weekend in Big Bear. It’s about a 2 hour drive east of LA. It’s up in the mountains, away from the city life. It’s quiet and just a great place to relax. I wanted to document my birthday in Big Bear, but I also wanted to be present and enjoy it. So I asked my friends to do the recording for me, and then I edited it when we got home. It was a fun edit, but extremely challenging. Everyone had different styles and piecing it together into a cohesive story was hard to do. But I’m pretty happy with the end result. Anyway, hope you like it, too. Home For The Holidays

01:00
Home For The Holidays I go home to Michigan twice a year: for the 4th of July and Christmas. Originally, the idea for this video was to make a story video. I was going to talk about what Christmas is like at my house, what's changed, etc. Unfortunately it didn't workout. I didn't get the shots I thought I'd need and some days I was just plain lazy. But I was still able to create something! And I'm pretty happy with it. No narration, just visual storytelling. I decided to make this video about what Christmas in Michigan looks likes: The snow, the quiet nature, the decorations in my family's home. I wanted to document the mood of Christmas at home. Enjoy! Charlie Brown Farms: Strange But Satisfying

01:48
On our way back from Vasquez Rocks, Charles and I stopped at Charlie Brown Farms. It’s a very unique store where you can grab some nostalgic candy, fill up on Texas BBQ, and check out the strange statue collection of life-size sharks, horses, and dinosaurs!!! http://www.roadtriprandy.com Charlie Brown Farms is in Littlerock, CA right off the 138 Hwy. It’s a very easy drive from Los Angeles, but I’d suggest adding it to another attraction or activity (like hiking) since you can see everything and even eat in less than an hour. If you want to pick up some candy from the 80s and 90s, you’ll find it here. They also have a huge selection of soda pop, weird snacks, and cheap gifts. The strangest thing, though, is their assortment of statues. Outside, they have lions, dinosaurs, horses, Santa, the Eiffel tower, and other random things sadly locked behind a gate -but definitely on display. Why fake lions and dinosaurs are locked up is beyond me. Same with the Eiffel Tower. And why is Santa there? This place is weird. But fun.
